Ten Things You Should Know About
Yes! I was amazed that my name takes up pretty much the whole first few pages. I quit looking after that. I know it's because of the alternate spelling my dad gave me. Instead of the traditional 'Lisa,' he went with Lesa. Sometimes it's a pain, lol, but to stand out as a writer, I think it's a good thing.
2. Do you write using a keyboard, pen and paper, or both?
A keyboard. And with speech recognition whenever possible!
3. What book are you currently reading?
I’m just starting a book by Liwen Ho, A Spoonful of Spice. I read one of her other awesome books, so I’m excited!
4. What project are you working on now?
Good question! :) I’m actively working on two different projects right now. I have two others on the back burner. I’m writing book 4 in the Operation Space Cats series, Operation Space Cats: The Starlight Diamond, and I’m finishing up book 2 of my survival/pirate series, Sky.
5. Have you always liked to write?
Yes, but I started out as a songwriter. I’ve written about 40 songs, along with some skits & plays. I was in my 30’s before I wrote my first (unpublished) novel. Now I’m working on short stories and novellas.
6. What is one of your favorite beverages/snacks while writing?
Beverage? Water. Exciting, I know. I’m going for health. Snack? With the hubby working (almost) all the time, I’m in the habit of eating at my desk, so it’s generally a variety of things throughout the day. Favorite snacks though are (for sweet) all natural chocolate peanut butter, and (for salty) Beanitos chips & organic salsa.
7. Describe your writing space as it is right now. What would be your ideal writing space (if it's different from this)?
I have a desk in our bedroom (which is not ideal), but hopefully, we’ll soon be converting one of the spare bedrooms into my office. I need the space, lol.
8. Do you have any other creative outlets besides writing?
I’ve recently started drawing. I’d love to illustrate one of the Children’s series I have in the works, Little Chick.
9. Who are your three favorite characters in your book(s)?
This is a tough, but good one! I’m going to stick with the cat characters from my Operation Space Cats series since the first book is actually published. There’s seven cats on the team. I’d have to say Tebbs because he’s my pawsome MC, Cavias, the ‘old & lame' cat, and Farlo, my 80’s dude, cat. I can relate to each of them in different ways, especially to Cavias.
Tebbs is a mild mannered Christian, and he gets motion sickness, just like me! Cavias was injured in the war and now walks with a limp. He lost his faith in God over it. I too, live with a foot injury, and struggle with walking. And while I didn’t lose my faith over it, I did struggle for answers, and had to pray to trust God though my situation.
And Farlo takes me back to my teen years since I grew up in the 80’s. So many memories … Even though I didn’t ‘plan’ to give these characters traits and situations like mine, they just kind of organically came though in my writing. It’s when I stepped back into their world later that I realized I’d put so much of myself into them. I was amazed!
10. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your writing?
I love writing in different genres. And for some reason, everything I write ends up turning into a series. So far I’m planning a Children’s/MG sci-fi fantasy series, a farm animal rhyming story series (for the younger kiddos), a historical romance novella series, and a short story survival/pirate adventure trilogy.
Thanks for having me here today, Lea. I enjoyed it!:)
