Welcome, C. J.!
God is faithful, even when His children are lost and wandering. When I needed Him most, the Lord was there for me. He led me out of that danger and into a new life...a life where I am loved and appreciated. He taught me what 'real love' is, and what it's supposed to look like through my family and wonderful husband. I hoped and prayed my 'Prince Charming" was out there, and I found him! He is a 24 year Navy veteran and the love of my life! With his encouragement, I rediscovered the creativity I thought I had lost a long time ago, and have begun to publish the books I have written through the years. The words in these books helped me through my struggles, and my prayer is they will help others.
The way in which I write my Christian Books is unique to say the least. I am a realistic Christian. People are people, they stumble, they fall, they trip, but God continues to dust us off, and set us back on the path again, if we just learn to trust in Him. The challenges faced in my past give me a perspective on the realities of living the Christian life that some people may never see. There are times we wander away from God...there are times when we draw closer to Him. In our arrogance, we think we can make it on our own. However, the One who made this world, and who made you, has the answers, and thankfully, He forgives our impudence and petulance and loves us through it all. God is a God of love, mercy, grace, and guidance. He loves us and only wants the best for us.
Those who have read my books, describe them as encouraging, frustrating, and a wonderful read all at the same time. The same character that could have you crying one minute, will have you cheering the next! One of my editors, stated that 'she was so into the story, that she forgot to edit, and had to go back to do the editing'.
I pray you will enjoy my books as well!
A Little About
The Divine Legacy Series
As the children of Nico and Kit Sullivan: Joshua and Rachel Sullivan, along with Mark and Casey English’s children: Jon, Jesse, and Angel English, make up the original members of the new A.N.G.E.L.s Unit. Their job is to gather their remaining teammates. While this should be a simple task, the adventure is anything but effortless. In the process of acquiring the two members listed in the United States, they run across a situation that isn’t on their agenda. Amber Jones was in need of miraculous intervention, and God answered her call with the next generation of A.N.G.E.L.s. The A.N.G.E.L.s find some unique help along the way, and learn valuable lessons that will change how they function and see the world from that point forward. Read along as the next generation picks up the torch, claiming their Divine Legacy.
Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!
Author's Rating: PG-13, because there is some violent action, and they deal with issues some authors are afraid to touch. Ex: death, demons, injuries, etc.
Ten Things You Should Know About
C. J. Peterson
I actually have a playlist for writing. Certain songs triggered certain books, and as they trigger the books, they are added to the playlist. For example, SEASONS OF CHANGE was triggered by Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away.” OPERATION A.N.G.E.L. was triggered by Keith Urban’s “For You.”
2. What is the first thing you remember writing?
When I was in first grade, we had to make a book. However, as a “big girl,” the first book I wrote was STRENGTH FROM WITHIN. I am in the process of re-writing that one, while writing ARMY RISING. STRENGTH FROM WITHIN was the first book out. It was my test book. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the brilliant editor I have now or it would have turned out better. Once I send it through her, it’ll be re-released.
3. Have you ever named a character in honor of someone you know?
Actually, there are times where I will name a character, and base them on someone I know. For example, Officer Herman Williams in the Grace Restored Series is a gentleman I know. Also in that series, the Field Training Officer, Andy D’Antonio, is created after a friend who helped with some details. Then in Divine Legacy Series, one of the characters, Jacob Armstrong, is actually after one of my youth kids – my husband and I are youth workers. And, of course, a lot of the main characters have portions of me…though I won’t tell which ones. People have asked to be in my books, usually followed closely by the statement, “Just don’t kill me!” LOL! I’m kind of known as a literary assassin.
4. At what moment did you feel like you could say, “NOW, I'm an author?”
Probably once I hit over fifty reviews on THE CALL TO DUTY. Also, funny but true story, my niece was in school in Indiana (we live in Texas), and her teacher asked why the author C.J. Peterson “followed” her on a social media site. When she replied, “Because she’s my aunt,” I guess the teacher flipped out, and said, “I love her books!” Being in the tiny portion of Texas I live in, I didn’t realize that people outside of my family and friends actually read and liked my books. It’s very humbling!
5. Do you write using a keyboard, pen and paper, or both?
I use a keyboard, because there are times where I move paragraphs a little easier. Also, I tend to write without an outline, so it helps to shift things when I don’t feel it’s right, or just plain deleting it. I’m known as a writer who writes by the seat of her pants. I sit down, pray, and write. When I run out of things to write, I put it up. Then when I start again, I read the last chapter, pray, and keep going. Somehow God strings it all together!
6. What project are you working on now?
I’m working on the next book of the Divine Legacy Series – ARMY RISING. The first book in this series, DIVINE LEGACY, was just released in November. In my books, the characters cross over into the other books, so you get more of their storyline. DIVINE LEGACY actually combines The Holy Flame Trilogy and the Grace Restored Series children. As the tag-line states: The Next Generation Is Taking Over. Army Rising is the team accumulating the remainder of their members, while they are being hunted by the “other side.”
7. Do you write every single day?
No. I’m afraid if I do, I would burn out. I love writing, but it takes a lot out of me. When I write, it’s like I’m watching it on the movie screen. If I’m bored, I rewrite it. Being ADD, one of my requirements is not to be bored. They are definitely action packed, and I love to throw in twists the reader never saw coming!
8. Do you have any furry writing buddies? (Or scaled or feathered?)
Yes, our cat, Sampson, is normally lying on my legs while I type. We often call him my editor. He’s Maine Coon/Manx mix, so he takes up most of my lap. I usually rest a pillow with the laptop on his back and type.
9. Who are your three favorite characters in your book(s)?
That’s like asking which is your favorite child. LOL! I would have to say in STRENGTH FROM WITHIN, it was Adam and Stacey. In the Holy Flame Trilogy, it would be Casey and the Colonel. In Grace Restored Series, Katie and Nick are my favorite. Then in DIVINE LEGACY, Rachel and Jacob are the favored “children” so to speak. Each one is different, yet there’s something about them that adds a sense of humor, of humanness that I sometimes see lacking in reality of life.
10. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your writing?
I am a “realistic Christian.” The characters in my books go through a lot, but learn to focus on God and verses to get through things. I, myself, have been through a lot, and writing is therapeutic in nature. It helps me, and it is my prayer that it helps those who read them as well! I love hearing from my readers.
